The “Ethnic” painting was inspired by the work of Navajo artist Melissa Cody, a fourth-generation weaver in her family. The Navajo are the largest indigenous community in the United States, and Melissa is known for her vibrant rugs with geometric shapes and striking color combinations. When I first learned about her work through her book, I was fascinated by the way she plays with shapes and colors.
