Ponto-Casa-Caiada TEXTUR Tapestry

Casa Caiada Point

The stitch used in most of Textur's paintings is the “Casa Caiada”. This stitch was created by Maria Digna and Edith Pessôa de Queiroz in the mid-1960s, in the Zona da Mata and Agreste regions of Pernambuco. They made a variation of the “Ponto Cruz” to create the “Casa Caiada”. This new technique was shared with other women in the region, which provided them with a job opportunity, increased self-esteem and financial independence.

In addition to Casa Caiada, in some paintings Luiza uses the “Rosinha” and “Smyrna” stitches, which is a different technique, but with the same material (100% wool).
